What is Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Injury?

The UCL is a crucial stabilizer of the elbow, and injury to this ligament can result in pain, instability, and a decrease in throwing performance. Physical Therapy for Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL) Injury
In cases of non-surgical management, the initial focus of physical therapy is to reduce pain and inflammation. This may involve the use of ice, gentle compression, and modalities such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation. Rest and activity modification are essential to allow the ligament to heal. The therapist may also recommend a brace or splint to provide additional support and protect the ligament during the early stages of healing.
As the pain subsides, the rehabilitation program progresses to include range-of-motion exercises to restore flexibility and prevent stiffness. Strengthening and sport-specific training follow similar principles as in non-surgical management but are introduced at a slower pace to allow for adequate healing of the reconstructed ligament.
